The tiny house movement requires the homeowners to cope with a small space with only around 100 to 400 feet. It becomes a problem when come to designing the rooms. The limited space prevents the homeowners to creative with the design. But actually, with some proper tricks, you can have your own dream house, including your own bedroom.
1. Try Climbing Up
Having a high ceiling will come in handy if you want to decorate your bedroom and preserve the space. The high ceiling will be the best place to build a lofted bed. The bed will provide a cozy sleeping area for you while you can have more space underneath.
You can easily get more storage or you can build your own working desk without moving the desk and wasting the space. However, a lofted bed also has its downsides. You will need to climb up the stair and you might have some difficulties when you want to go to the bathroom at night. If you don’t mind those things, having a lofted bed in your bedroom is definitely a good idea.
2. Murphy Bed
If you don’t like climbing up the stair, then you can consider buying the folded bed. Folded bed or Murphy bed will be the best alternative to save more space in your bedroom. You can easily fold up the bed when not in use and you can use the available space for other activities.
There are lots of Murphy bed types you can buy and if you want to get more space, consider buying the one with built-in storage. You can use the bed for your comfortable sleep while having additional storage to save your books, decorations, or clothes.
3. Hidden Bed
To create a bigger space illusion, you can consider hiding your bed to prevent your bedroom looks packed. You can hide your bed on a secret compartment and close the trace during the day. Or you can build a hidden bed platform to get more floor space.
You just need to raise the floor level, but it isn’t as high as the bunk bed. To use the bed, you just need to slide open the lower storage. Add some stairs as a path to the above level and you can use it as your working space or cozy space with additional storage for your favorite books.
4. Change the Wall Color
The choice of color also plays a big role in determining the space for your bedroom. The light color will make the room look brighter as well and it can create a bigger space illusion. The lighter color here will reflect the light well in every corner of the room.
While the darker color will make your room darker and create smaller space illusion. If you want your bedroom looks bigger, consider changing the wall color into white. Not only will it make the room looks brighter, but it will also create a more luxurious atmosphere.
5. Play with Color
If you have changed the wall color into white, you don’t need to change everything into white since it will look boring. It is perfectly fine if you like monochrome color, but it will make your room look cold.
To create a warmer bedroom, you can try to combine different color that will contrast your wall color. You can consider choosing a bold color, like dark blue, yellow, green, and other colors. The color combination will make your room look bigger.
6. Hang Mirrors
If you have chosen the right color combination for your bedroom, you also need to make sure that it receives better lights. You don’t need to break down the wall to build more windows. You can easily hang some mirrors to reflect the natural lights into your bedroom. The light reflection will help some dark corners look brighter.
Not only provide more lights to your bedroom, but the mirrors will trick your eyes to believe that you have a bigger space. The reflection on the mirror will look like a door or window that open to the next room. It will do the trick if you choose a bigger mirror for your bedroom.
7. Allow the Natural Lights to Enter the Room
If you have a window on your bedroom, it is best to allow the light to enter the room well. You can open the window during the day, but if you don’t want it, you can simply hang a brighter curtain for on the window. Avoid hanging darker curtain or blindfold since it can prevent the lights to enter the room.
8. Consider Removing the Headboard
If you purchase a bed frame at the store, you might find some of them have a built-in headboard. The headboard here will take more space on your tiny bedroom. If you haven’t bought one, you need to choose the one without.
But, if you already have one, you don’t need to throw it away since you can simply removing the headboard yourself. If you still want to use the headboard, you can try to transform it into a wall-mounted one. By doing it, you can have more floor space but you still have the headboard for your bed.
9. Create Multi-purpose Headboard
Another way to trick the headboard is to transform it into a multi-purpose headboard. You can do a simple DIY project to make your own headboard based on your needs. You can simply build it as a cabinet or storage to hold other decorations, lamps, or even your favorite books.
10. Wall-mounted Lighting
The last way to get more space in your bedroom is to install wall-mounted lighting. That way, you can make use of the wall space and at the same time, you can have more space in your room to store books or other things. Also, you can have more additional room on your nightstand.
