Living a tiny house can have lots of benefits for you. Among others, you can easily pick the decoration you want and you can clean it easily as well. You also don’t need to spend lots of money on it. But, it also has some downsides. You need to carefully place the decoration so that the small space doesn’t get smaller.
You also need to learn lots of things to make the smaller space looks bigger. There are different ways to customize your tiny house, starting from your living room. The best thing is that you don’t need to rebuild your house for it. Here is some know-how for you.
A. Create Bigger Room Illusion
Having a small living room space may put a lot of stress for you. To make it bigger, you might consider rebuilding your house. It will take more time, more energy, and more money to save your living room. But, you don’t need to worry. There is a simpler way to make your living room looks bigger by tricking your eyes.
1. Preserve Natural Light
The first illusion that will make your living room looks bigger is by preserving as many lights as possible. The lighter the living room, the bigger it will look. The natural light will prevent shadows and it will trick your eyes to believe that you have a bigger living room. You don’t need to break down the wall to get the natural light.

You just need to change the curtain and make sure that the light can enter the room well. If you don’t have great lighting for your room, you can simply hang some small mirrors to help the light to spread on the living room. Or, you can hang a bigger mirror in the living room so that the reflection will look like a window or door to other rooms.
2. Play with Color
To get a bigger living room illusion, not only get the natural light to enter the room, but you also need to consider the overall color of the living room. If you are a fan of darker color, you need to try choosing the brighter or bold color combination to make the living room looks bigger.
Start with changing the wall color into white and change some furniture with a brighter color. As a bonus, your living room will look more elegant. But, if you still want to preserve your love for darker color, you can still use it, but you need to consider combining it with a lighter color.
3. Play with Patterns
Believe it or not, the patterns play a big role in creating the illusion. Some small patterns won’t be suitable here if you want to get a bigger living room illusion. If you want your living room to look bigger, you need to choose bigger patterns.
You can change your wallpaper into the striped pattern to create a higher ceiling illusion. It will be very helpful if you have a lower ceiling. You can also start changing your cushion cover design with a bigger pattern.
B. Choose Suitable Decoration
The most common problem of having a tiny living room is choosing the decoration. It is true that you don’t need lots of decoration here, but it won’t help in creating a bigger room illusion. If you want your living room looks bigger, consider adding or changing these following decorations.
Plants are the best decoration for every homeowner. The plants can give a brighter atmosphere and it can make the air in the room healthier. Another good point from having some plants in your living room is that they can help to create balanced space.
If you have an odd corner in your living room, consider choosing a bigger potted plant. The plants will be the focal point and help the surroundings more noticeable. But, if you have bigger furniture, you can consider smaller potted plants to create more storage space.

One of the most important furniture in the living room is the sofa since it will be the central point of the living room. Choosing the right sofa with the right size is the most crucial thing here. If you want your sofa to take less space, you can choose a smaller one.
But, it doesn’t mean that you cannot choose the larger sofa here. You can still choose the longer sofa, but you need to make sure that it can fit the living room and doesn’t take lots of space.
3. Coffee Table
To accompany the sofa, you need to consider buying a table. The table might take lots of space in the living room, but you can always choose the smaller one, like a coffee table. Nowadays, coffee tables are designed with various sizes and you can easily find the smaller one.
To make a bigger room illusion, you can choose the transparent coffee table so that it won’t overwhelm other furniture. If you want to minimize the space in the living room, you can also choose the multi-purpose coffee table to store some books or to be the additional place to sit.
If you have lots of books to store, you don’t need to be afraid of placing the bookshelf in the living room. Instead of using a huge bookshelf, you can consider choosing the floating shelf. It will save more space and you will have more space on the floor. The living room will look neater and less crowded. Not only books, but you can also place some tiny decorations on the floating shelf.
5. Photo Frames
Having a small space doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice to hang your photos on the wall. The photo frame will be the focal point of the wall and it can make your living room look bigger.
The trick is to hang a bigger photo frame on one side of the wall. It is best to keep it minimal and avoid placing lots of smaller photo frames at once. The more the photo frames your hang, the smaller your living room will look. It is also best if you choose a monochrome color to avoid it overwhelms other furniture.
